Andrew Weatherall - Screamadelica tribute mix.

http://www.4shared.com/audio/PAB_heJ7/01_6_Mix_Screamadelica.html

I found this mix on whilst searching for more mellow Andrew Weatherall mixes.  Its a mix he did for BBC Radio as a tribute to his times spent with Primal Scream producing the Screamadelica album.  For those who have never heard this record get out and buy it now.  Its an absolute classic.  This is one of those records, along with The Stone Roses defined an era and still sounds fantastic today.

It also has one of the greatest album covers ever.  Infact I will start a page up which focuses just on great artwork for 90s dance / electronic album covers.

20 - Isaac Hayes — Walk On By
21 - Suicide - Dream Baby Dream

Higher Than the Sun (A Dub Symphony In Two Parts) - Primal Scream.

Heres another fantastic remix by Mr Weatherall. Another Sunday favourite of mine.

Only Love Can Break Your Heart (A Mix Of Two Halves)

This is one of best remixes ever IMO. It took what was already a fab song and took it to another level. Weatherall was very clever when he did this remix, because he still managed to keep the feel of the 'original' version.

This remix was a big favourite in Ibiza when it came out, and is still played over there today. THis for me is a perfect Sunday tune.

Chill out Sunday dedicated to Andrew Weatherall.

Todays Chill our will be dedicated to Lord Sabre himself.  I will be posting Youtube links to some of my favourite remixes of his.  plus later tonight will post a link to a very special mix that he recently did dedicated to Primal Screams - Screamadelica.

Have a relaxing Sunday and hope its not too cold for you.  Living In Brighton does have its downside.  we haven't had any snow yet!!  A bit unfair when the rest of the country seems to be snowed in.

Happy Mondays - Hallelujah (club mix)

And another classic remix from Lord Sabre. This time he was joined by Paul Oakenfold in a joint remix. A very strange pairing that would not happen today, as their music styles now are too different and contradictory.

I was at college when this came out. Everyone seemed to jump on the baggy bandwagon. A group of us went up to Wembley (driven by my mum) to watch the Happy Mondays play there. It was a really good concert/rave. Loads of really good DJs playing. the Mondays were shambolic as to be expected. They were carefree and easier times.

F.S.O.L - Papua New Guinea (Andrew Weatherall Mix) 1991.wmv

Another classic remix from Andrew Weatherall.

Two Lone Swordsmen - Glide By Shooting

Lovely deep spacey house from Lord Sabre himself. I remember hearing this at The Bomb in Nottingham. A lovely underground club. I had a fantastic night there with a good friend.  Although he and his sister had a big (if a bit amusing) falling out in the club.

Andrew Weatherall was in one room playing deep house and techno. David Holmes was in the other room playing one of his retro funk sets. It was so difficult deciding which room to be in as they were both on at the same time.

In fact this could be my favourite Weatherall record.

Luke Slater - All Exhale (Rude Solo Remix).wmv

Here's a less known remix done by Andrew Weatherall. The original is by Luke Slater who was one of the residents at Troll trivia fans. Its a bit electro/techno. Enjoy.

Primal Scream -Loaded (12 Inch Vinyl EP ) -1990

One of my first heard and still favourite Weatherall productions. This whole era that he spent with Primal Scream brings back many happy memories for me. i remember going to watch Primal Scream live in Brixton when Screamadelica came out. It was a memorable concert with great DJs on before an after the band.

The highlight for me though was The Orb in the upstairs corridor. Truly mind bending. This was followed by a trip down Trade afterwards. Probably one the best nights (and day) out I have ever had.

First ever Andrew Wetherall Essential Mix 1993.

http://soundcloud.com/djmixes/andrew-weatherall-essential-mix-13-11-1993

This is one of my favourite early Essential Mixes.  The thing is with Andrew Weatherall is that you just cannot predict what he will be playing next.  Ive seen him dj at gigs before Primal Scream and the Happy Mondays (both in the early 90s) and he was playing 'big room' house and techno from that era.  Ive also heard him play fantastic deep house sets at The Bomb in Nottingham and Basics in Leeds. And a Rockabilly set at The Southbank.

Along with Laurent Garnier he is a true pioneer who never sold out.  If you ever get the chance go and hear him - go.

I will be adding more of his stuff over the course of this weekend.

The first ever Essential Mix 1993.

Here is the first ever Essential mix.  It was done by Pete Tong in 1993.  It is hard to believe that its been nearly 20 years since the Essential mix started.

Personal favourites over the years have been Tony de Vit, Tall Paul, TWA, Pete Wardman and David Holmes.

This mix does sound a bit dated now.  But its real slice of history.  This mix came out in the days before mass market mix CDs, MP3S and the Internet.

Its was so difficult to get DJ mixes so when the Essential mix started it was something really new and exciting.  I remember many a Sunday morning getting back from a club and taping these mixes.

Pete tong has never really been my favourite DJ.  But credit where credit is due for bringing us these mixes.

Watch out for many more links to mixes in the future.

Hardcore mix 1991/92

http://soundcloud.com/redseal/dj-redseal-91-92-old-school-mix

Found this mix on Soundcloud.  Its got loads of classics from 91/92.  Its on on hardcore tip so will be for all those who remember Trade in its early Hardcore days or went to Sterns or Rage at heaven.  It does get a bit jungley at times.  But its still a good mix.

This mix has Zero B - Lock up on it.  This is one of my all time favourite records and was massive at Trade.  I think it was also remixed by Malcolm Duffy.

Lennie D Ice - We R IE
Razor Boy & Mirror Man - Beyond Control
After Dark - Cardiac
EGMA - Let the Bass Kick
X-Static - Free
After Dark - Asylum
Zero B - Lock Up
Doc Scott - Surgery
After Dark - Come With Me Tonight
Manix - Oblivion
Urban Shakedown - Some Justice
The House Crew - We Are Hardcore (Remix)
2 Bad Mice - Hold It Down
Urban Shakedown - Bass Quake
M&M - Don't Stand In My Way
The House Crew - We Are Hardcore
Edge 1 - Compounded
Dance Conspiracy - Dub War
Phantasy & Gemini - Ruff Beats
Yolk - Bish Bosh
Prodigy - Your Love

Urban Soul - Alright (Sasha Remix)

This was one of the God like (OK I will stop saying that before his name!) Sashas first remixes. Very much a classic.

This brings back a load of memories from the era I first got into clubs and raves. I think the first time I heard this out was in the upstairs (funky) room at Rage @ Heaven.

Enjoy.

1993 mix from the God like Sasha!!

Ive managed to find a mix in two parts by the God like Sasha in Australia in 1993.  The total mix is just under 2 hours long.  Not the best quality recording ever, but hey what do you expect its nearly 20 years old.

NUSH u girls

Sorry for the delay in putting any posts up since Sunday. Its been a very hectic week at work. I was going to do some posts last night but went to watch the new Harry Potter instead, which by the way is amazing - very dark and brooding.

Anyway I'm being a bit lazy tonight and posting a Youtube link. This link is a bit special today.

Its for a good friend of mine Shirley. Without going into too much detail and putting her private life on the net. She is having a very difficult time at the moment. I'm putting this link on the blog for her because I'm hoping this will put smile on her face. This is one of her favourite dance tunes. I have many happy memories of Shirley dancing round Leeds to this one.

Take care Shirley. Think of the happier time s ahead.

Jose Padilla - Cafe del Mar

http://soundcloud.com/djmixes/jose-padilla-perfect-summer-live-cafe-del-mar-ibiza-early-august-1991

Hers a fantastic mix from the Chill King himself Jose Padilla.  I never got to hear him live at Cafe Del Mar.  By the time I got to Ibiza Cafe del Mar was a shadow of its former glories.  It was Cafe Mambo (next door)  that had taken over the sunset glory.

But for now listen to how it all started.

Erasure - Ship Of Fools - Southsea Isles of Holy Beats Mix

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDw4OJz6xKg

Its chill out Sunday again.  How quickly they come round.  This is a remix of one of my favourite Erasure records.  The Orb have taken it to a different level.

Sit back relax and enjoy.

Jeff Mills mixes.

Well its the end of Jeff Mills day.  Hope you have enjoyed watching the Youtube links.  Above are two links for live mixes by Jeff Mills in 1992 and 1997.

JEFF MILLS THE BELLS

This us one of my favourite Jeff MIlls tunes.  In fact one of the best techno records ever. Weirdly enough the first time I heard this was watching one of those 90s Ibiza TV programmes. Jermely Healy was on it DJing at Cream in Ibiza. He played it in his set.  It took my ages to find out it was by Jeff Mills.  After all Jeff Mills and Jeremy Healy are not two names usually put together.

It was also a favourite at The Orbit in Morley. Not sure how many of you managed to get to the Orbit? I went there a handful of times. It was a very intense northern techno club, with an insane crowd who would literally be swinging from the rafters. It was also one of the friendliest clubs I've ever been to.

The crowd would only accept techno being played.  I remember one time Laurent Garnier playing some techy drum and base and hip hop for about 15 minutes in the middle of his set.  The dance literally cleared and the crowd were totally disgusted by him deviating from techno.  Personally I though it was one of the best sets I had ever heard.  it really opened my eyes.

I have a few stories to tell of the Orbit. But they will be told in other posts.

Enjoy the video.

Jeff Mills & Montpellier Philharmon - The Bells

I'm having a bit of a Jeff Mills day. I will be adding various video links throughout he day. Then adding some live mixes of his from the 90s.

As I'm feeling a bit delicate today (a few too many wines last night at a friends leaving do), I'm posting this fantastic video of Jeff doing his most famous tune 'The Bells' live in France with a full orchestra.

I will try and find the full concert link to post later.

Enjoy.

Jeff Mills & Montpelier Philharmonic Orchestra - Full Video

As promised heres the link to the full orchestral concert. Its very very good. Shows what techno can become when put in the hands of a true genius.

Lionrock - Packet Of Peace (Jeff Mills Mix)

Here's a really cool remix of a Lionrock classic. Jeff Mills rarely did remixes outside of the Detroit scene.
 Enjoy!!

90s blog club night in Brighton

I am still in shock about how popular this blog is becoming.  Over 2000 views in a month.  As a thank you to everyone (who lives in or near Brighton that is!)  I am considering putting on a night some time early in 2011.

It will be a simple affair (to keep costs down).  The basement of some pub in Brighton.  Djs playing underground 90s dance music and invited people from this blog, friends and family.

Please add a note in the comments section of this post if you would be at all interested in this night.

Thanks

Steve Thomas Classic Hard House Mix.

http://www.mediafire.com/?nzmmmzjndur

Here's a mix from one of my favourite DJs.  Steve Thomas has been resident at Trade, DTPM, Sundissential and Superfish.  He was renowned for his groovy take on hard house in the 90s.  Nowadays he tends to play a more progressive / deep house sound.

His first mix that he did for Trade is one of my favourite mixes ever.  He was also one of the earliest supporters of The Sharp Boys.

He has recorded under a number of different aliases.  I will post a more full biography soon.

Watch out for further Steve Thomas links in the future.

Enjoy.

Steve Thomas classic hard house mix.

Keep your eyes peeled for a classic Steve Thomas mix of banging 90s tunes.

Keep Rocking!!

The mix is from a fantastic mix blog.  Called 'My year of mix tapes'.  Theres a real mixture of genres on here.  Check it out.

Sit back, relax and let the smooth vocals ease tour mood.
