Followers in Iran.

Sending out a big hello to the 16 people in Iran who viewed the blog this week.  Please send me a comment so that I can post something for you in the future.

Stay safe.

Mrs Woods Jukebox. COMING SOON.

Coming soon.

Instead of having a standard interview with the legendary DJ Mrs Wood.  I have decided to give her,  her own jukebox on the site.  This will be an ongoing feature.

It will entail Mrs Wood choosing random records from the 90s that meant something to her.  They will of course be mainly 'dance' related.  However, there will be the occasional non dance records.  Sometimes she will give in depth comments about them.  Sometime only short answers.

I think that this will add another dimension to the interview aspect of the site.

Hope you enjoy it.

Watch out for the first jukebox selections in the next few weeks.

Also, watch out for the rest of the Baby D goodies this week.

Pink Floyd on Chill Out Sunday.

Im going for something a bit different this week.  Im dedicating Chill Out Sunday to Pink Floyd.  Yes I know they are not really associated with 90s dance music.  However, their influence on ambient / electronic music cannot be underestimated.  Where would The Orb or KLF have been without Pink Floyd?

Anyway heres a really cool chill mix which starts of with some Floyd.  Followed by some videos.  Once again this amazing mix was found on DISCOG.

Enjoy.

RIP LOLETTA HOLLOWAY - Sharp Boys - Sharp Tools Vol.2 Part.3

I am breaking into this Baby D week in order to pay respects to the legend that was Loleta Holloway who sadly passed away yesterday at the age of 64.

For those that don't know her name. Take note that she is the most sampled female singer ever. You will have danced around to samples of her singing 100s of times without realising it.

I will be paying a proper tribute to her next week.

Baby D - Let me be your fantasy (UK Garage mix) White label

I know I shouldn't like this remix. But you know what? I think its fab. I remember hearing this is on one of the fields at Leeds love Parade. It was outside the Bud Bus that  used to do the rounds at festival then. I seem to remember that Norman Jay was on. When he played this remix and it got to the breakdown and the piano came in. OMG everyone went wild. It was a definite MOMENT!.

Enjoy.

Baby D-Let me be your Fantasy 1993 (Original and extended)

This is one of my favourite records (from any genre) ever. It has everything you could want from a tune. Many happy memories dancing to this in the early 90s at clubs like Sterns and random raves at Farnborough Rec.

Baby D Behind The Groove 1990

Well here it is. The first post on the Baby D week. Its their first record released on Production House Records in 1989.

Useful fact of the week.... Baby D (the singer) is Phil Fearons (from Galaxy fame) daughter.

Anyway look out for more videos, mixes and an exclusive interview with Baby D herself throughout the week.

Enjoy.

Sunday 20 March 2011

Paul Oakenfold - Goa mix 1994.

Wow!

Im listening to this seminal Essential Mix from 1994.  Id forgotten how good it was.  Far superior to the official CD version.

I take back anything negative I said about Paul Oakenfold earlier.  This mix cancels out all the LA stuff.

See post from earlier to get the link.

90s ambient mix.

Well it is Chill Out Sunday.  So enjoy this ambient mix found on DISCOGS.

Oh go on then! another one from Blu Peter. I was hoping to interview him for the site. Fingers crossed it will still happen.

Blu Peter - Funky Suite (James Holden Remix)

I couldn't have a trance day without posting something from React. Here is a brilliant James holden remix of a Blu Peter track.

Its from 2000 so right on the cusp of this blog. But who cares when its this good.

Coming later today.

red sun this love

Red Jerry is a genius. This records is a classic of any genre.

PPK - Resurrection (full version)

Another favourite of mine. Simple and catchy.

Café Del Mar (Live Performance Remix) Remote SL MkII [Reason 5 in stores...

Mmm not a 90s version I know. But still interesting to see. Cafe del Mar - Energy 52 is one of my all time favourite records. I will be dedicating a whole day to it soon.

Schiller - Das glockenspiel

Wow just found this little gem on Youtube. A live version of a favourite one of mine. I always remember X-Press 2 playing this at an allnight set they did at Basics in Leeds. Very, very very messy night. One of my best nights out ever in Leeds.

Ayla - Ayla (Taucher Remix) High Quality

Aah remember this being played at Sundissential North. This was in the days when Sundissential was gay friendly and played house and trance as well as hard house.

This was before it all went belly up for Madders. shame. I always remember seeing him misbehaving on the sofas at the back.

pvd vs rachel mcfarlane lover

I'm not usually a lover of bootlegs. But this is genius. So simple and the two records fit perfectly with each other.

Delerium ft. Sarah McLachlan - Silence [Tiesto Remix]

This is one of my favourite trance records ever. Also one of the few Tiesto productions I liked. I only saw him once and that was a Gatecrasher in Sheffield. TBH his set left me cold. Too many long breakdowns. Cant get away from the majesty of Silence though.

Laurent Garnier live @ The Omen 1996.

http://soundcloud.com/r_co/laurent-garnier-live-omen-franfurt-22-11-1996

This is a really cool mix ive found on Soundcloud.  It really captures that mid 90s techno/trance sound that Laurent Garnier was playing then.  He touches almost on the gay London Nu-energy sound in this mix.  This was the era when you could here him playing at Garage @ Heaven and Turnmills as well.

Its a shame that the UK gay club scene has become so dire  that you wouldnt see him playing at a gay in the UK club.  What a shame.  What happened to gay clubs leading the way?

Happy days.

Todd ( The God) Terry mix.

Just found this really good mix of various Todd (the God) Terry tunes.  Back in the early 90s Todd was producing amazing 'hard' house records US style.  Malcolm Duffy was always playing loads of his stuff.  I have an amazing couple of live mixes by Todd Terry live in Leeds that i will add to the site at some point.

Most people seem to know his remix of Missing by Everything But The girl.  Whilst this is an amazing remix, I always preferred his early 90s 'traxxy' style records.

Malcolm Duffy Fiction 2003.

Heres a classic Malcolm Duffy mix from 2003.  yes I realise its not from the 90s.  But mixes by him are rare.  I think this mix was given away free at fiction.  Its good solid tribal / progressive house.

If anyone has any other mixes by him please get in touch.

Enjoy

10000 Views on the site. Tradetastic massive 28 hour mix.

As promised here is a very special treat to celebrate 10000 views on this blog.  Its a 28 hour mix dedicated to all things Trade.  Can you believe someone did such a long mix like this?

The mix sort of bypasses the Alan Thompson and Malcolm Duffy side of things, going straight into Steven Thomas territory.

Anyway just click on the link and download.

Enjoy and once again thanks to everyone who has looked at the site and given feedback and positive words.

Also many thanks to the very talented Ian for having the time and dedication to do this mix.  Well done.  Maybe one day we will hear you playing at Trade or even the forthcoming blog night..

Tracklisting is in the Trade page on the left.
