Wow wow and wow.

Sven Vath - Omen Club 1993

Sven Vath is another favourite here on the site. His influence goes back over 20 years.  Its good to see that his dedication to House, Techno and Trance has not diminished.

Here is a mighty mix of early 90s Omen classics.  Which ones do you recognise?

Enjoy.

Fergie Essential Mix 2001 1-14

Keeping things Trade and bouncy is a bouncy mix by TDVs protegee Fergie.  This mix is a full on bounceathon catering not just for the Turnmills brigade but all the Sundissential crowd as well.

After some years away from the Hard House scene.  Whilst trying to create a more Techno sound.  It is good to see that Fergie has started to play occasional sets at Hard House clubs.

Although his sound has moved on and matured.  Fergie should never forget where he came from.

Enjoy.

Dave Angel & Trevor Rockliffe @ The Obsession Club - 1993

Banging Techno mixes from two legendary DJs.  Ignore the MC bits.

Enjoy.

Daz Saund & Trevor Rockcliffe - Too Dance (Various - Lagoa 7 CD)

A nice bit of True minimal techno.

Enjoy.

Vague2.

Keeping things mixed (well mostly gay).  I have a fab uplifting mix from one of the greatest and most well respected Leeds clubs - Vague.

Although fairly short lived Vague set the way for SpeedQueen, The Glasshouse etc.

I think the mix is by Curtis Zack one of Vagues residents.  Curtis is still playing out today.  Vague was a real hotbed of Northern talent.  Many of them are still playing out today.

Enjoy.

Trevor Rockcliffe Trade 1992 (42mb)

Any reader to this site knows that it is pretty much overshadowed by Trade music and DJs.  In honour of that here is a rare mix from one of the original Trade residents Trevor Rockcliffe.

Its got that banging early Techno / Hard House sound that originated from the club.

Not 100% sure about this mix as I haven't labelled it well.  I think it may be one side of a two part mix.  If I find the other side I will also post that.

Enjoy.

Dave Curtis - Insomniacz classics part 4.

Its been a while since I posted anything on here.  Usual story of work work work!

I'm feeling ill on bed so am taking the time to add some more goodies here.

Hope you enjoy them.

First up its a cracking Hard House mix made by Dave Curtis in tribute to the mighty Insomniacz in Sheffield.

Sven Vath @ The Omen 1993 12/6 Part 1.

http://www.mediafire.com/?od9jz878j6tyvtf

Any follower of this blog will know that I have been a big fan of Sven Vath since the early 90s.  I have posted a lot of his mixes and videos on this blog.

Over the next 3 days I am posting a three part set of his.  Its live from his legendary club The Omen in Germany.

Hope you enjoy these as I have loads more Sven to come over the coming year.

Enjoy.

Naughty Nick Vague classics.

http://www.mediafire.com/?aueamnwqra5kiaq

I meant to post this months ago when posting the Paul Fryer (TWA) interview.  For some reason I never got around to it.

Well here it is.  A pumping mix of happy Vague classics.  I suggest you put this on just for before you go out this weekend.

Enjoy.

Precious Heart - Tall Paul VS Inxs - Lush Version

Todd Terry Unreleased Project Part 07 - Clear Away The Past (Davey D'S R...

Todd Terry in the mix.

http://www.mediafire.com/?t0wcgqh974tpjk3

One of the greatest producers of all time in House music.  Its a case of where do you start with him.  So many productions and remixes.

He is also a fantastic DJ.  He would often get slated for playing sets of mostly his own stuff.  My attitude was always - who cares?  He always managed to make his sets underground as well as full of his more obvious anthems.

I always liked the really early years of Trade win Malcolm Duffy would play loads of his tunes.

Enjoy.

Tall Paul The Hard House Project.

http://www.mediafire.com/?vp18h3ury8sdu8v

Late 90s Hard House mix from one of my favourite DJs from the 90s.  Tall Paul.

Its the type of set he would have played at Sundissential North where he played most months in the early days.

Enjoy.

Lisa German Blue Cube mix.

http://www.mediafire.com/?e0cec8qg32om15y

Lisa German has always been one of my favourite female DJs.  She has had residencies at Trade, DTPM, Fiction and Heaven.

Although not a full time DJ anymore her name still pops up occasionally on the London gay club scene.

Here we have a nice smooth tribal/progressive/deep mix.

Enjoy.

Sasha Bangkok December 1993.

http://www.mediafire.com/?7478il58lws8l4k

Sasha is one of the ultimate DJs of all time.  Since starting out in the late 80s acid house boom via progressive and trance in the 90s he is still going strong today.

Here is a mix from bios early 90s club days.

Enjoy.

Dave Curtis - Insomniacz classics part 3.

Its been a while since I posted one of the Dave Curtis amazing tribute to Sheffields Insomniacz mixes.  So here goes part 3.

John OO Flemming - Hardhouse Sessions.

http://www.mediafire.com/?6eb1u6a4eaa8e9g

I have always admired John 00 Flemming.  Even when he was playing at the likes of Trade, Sundissential and The Glasshouse he always stuck true to his passion for quality Trance music.  Something he has stuck to to the present day.

I remember that he used to play regularly at the Sundissential North after parties at the original Glasshouse (before it moved to Lens & Digbys).  They were amazing  nights.  Anyone remember the door host dressed as a monk?

Good for him to not chaining with whatever is fashionable at the time.

Enjoy.

Mrs Wood @ FF 1993

Its been a while since I posted a Mrs Wood mix on here.  This is a peak time banging set from the Queen of 90s Techno.

Think dark driving Techno and Trance on the (then) fairly intimate main dance floor on a Sunday Morning at Turnmills.

I have so many more mixes from her to add over the coming months.

Its a shame that she has retired from clubbing as I would kill to have her play at the upcoming blog club night.

If your reading this Jane pleads think about a DJing comeback.

Enjoy.

Saturday 28 July 2012

Timo Maas - Nosebleed May 1997.

Timo Maas may be known nowadays more for his minimal style.  Its easy to forget that in the 90s his sound was more hard trance.

This mix shows why he was resident at Gatecrasher and Cream, as opposed to his DC10 one from recent years.

I like the way the mix starts of with a bit of the Aphex Twins - Didgeridoo.

Enjoy.

Sounds of Blackness - Everythings Gonna Be Alright (Sasha Remix) [UNRELE...

Wow I never even knew this existed.  One of my favourite S.O.B tunes remixed by Sasha.

Enjoy.

Kevin Saunderson - Direct Drive mix. 1997.

I'm feeling very generous today.  So here is a fab mix.

Its from 1997 by one the founding fathers of techno.  The Inner City legend that is Kevin Saunderson.

The mix starts of housey then progresses onto Techno.

Look out for the amazing mix from Spastik into Professional widow.\\Enjoy.

Junior Vasquez tribute mix.

Keeping things on a gay 90s tip.  Here is a fantastic tribute mix to Junior Vasquez at New Yorks legendary Sound Factory.

Once again I have no details of where this mix came from.  So please get in touch if you know its origin.

Steve Thomas and Fergie Kiss Fm.

Either today or tomorrow the blog will hit 100000 views.  When I started it two years ago I never thought it would do this well.

To celebrate this and to thank everyone who has been so positive about it I am posting this extra special four part mix.  In particular I would like to thank sharing his time and mixes.

Its a four part live Kiss Fm mix show by Trade DJs Steve Thomas and Fergie.  The show starts of with Steve Thomas on a Housey tip, then gradually progresses onto the hard stuff by Fergie.

There is a small amount of talking by them.  But not enough to detract from the mix.

Enjoy.

LFO - LFO (Leeds warehouse mix)

One of the ultimate bleep tunes from back in the day.

I seem to remember that Steve Wright said that this was the worst record he had ever heard when it was played on his show.

Coming from him I would take that as a compliment.

Enjoy.

Speedqueen Fantasies At The Warehouse Leeds 16th July 2011 Video 5

In honour of the blog being mentioned in this months Mixmag,  During an article about The Leeds Warehouse venue.

Here's a little taster of Speed Queen at The warehouse in full effect.

Enjoy.

Digs and Woosh (DIY) - Melon Bounce 1995.

http://www.mediafire.com/?wmcfpac1y6cyy5h

Time to soften things up a bit.  After posting two banging mixes I want to post something more sunny and Housey.

DIY were a House and Techno traveller sound system that toured in the 90s.  They were part of the Castlemorten raves that led to the laws on outdoor raving being changed.

Unlike most other sound systems (i.e. Spiral Tribe) DIY were mainly US House based.  Although they did have some Techno DJs as part of the set up.  It was a bit of a popular misconception that they only played House at their raves.

I will soon be having a week dedicated to DIY so watch out for more mixes.

Think Malcolm Duffy and Alan Thompson first sets at trade in the early 90s if you want a style comparison.

Enjoy.

Jeff Mills - Slam Club Germany 1996.

http://www.mediafire.com/?folr9br7q3i7ol4

Techno Techno Techno.

A mighty mix from one of Detroits Techno legends.

Pure 90s Techno.  Not the pumped House that is labelled Techno nowadays.

Enjoy.

Hatty Lovehearts - Digbys Reunion.

Here is a cracking bouncy Hard House mix from Leeds 90s favourite Hatty Lovehearts.

Hatty was a resident at the Glasshouse in its early years.  When it still played Hard House.

This mix was made to celebrate those insane Sunday mornings when the Glasshouse was at its second venue Lens and Digbys.

Lens and Digbys will always be my favourite venue for the Glasshouse.  From what I can remember it was a wine bar for the 'city' workers in the week.  Then on a Sunday morning it went a bit mental.  Who remembers the library room there?

There was a period of time when the perfect weekend was Bar Fibre followed by Speed Queen followed by The Glasshouse.

When The Glasshouse moved to Heaven and Hell although still good, it wasn't really the same.  However, its location meant that I could slip a few hours in at Basics between Speed Queen and The Glasshouse.

Anyway hope you enjoy this mix.  It will certainly bring back a few bouncy memories.

Enjoy.

Fuelled @ Fire This saturday.

How about this for a line up.  Unusual to see one this good (and tuff) on the London gay scene.  Might even go myself.

If there were line ups each week in London (or Brighton) then I would come out of clubbing retirement.

Its only £7 to get in.  That equals less than £1 per hour.

See you on the dance floor.

Deep Dish @ Sundissential - Pacha Ibiza 1998.

Here we have a bit of an oddity.  Its a live set from Washington DC House legends Deep Dish live at Pacha Ibiza.

So far so good.

However, its for the Sundissential night at Pacha.  Sundissential was a Hard House and Trance night from Leeds and Birmingham.  Why it put on a house night at Pacha i really have no clue.  As the three aspects to this mix really don't make sense.

But, the proof is in the pudding as they say.  And the result of this odd mix is a fantastic set by Deep Dish.  Who cares about the whys and wherefores of how this came about.

I loved going to Sundissential North in Leeds.  Ironically the only things I felt was missing from making it the perfect night (Sunday afternoon really) was a house DJ at the start to warm things up.  I did used to find walking starlight into HH a bit disconcerting.

Enjoy.

http://www.mediafire.com/?so8x5iapmso2428

Trade FM - Daz Saund and Tall Paul.

This might just be one of the rarest mixes ever posted on this blog.  Its from an early 90s Trade late night take over on Kiss 100fm.

It features mixes from Daz Saund and Tall Paul.  Somewhere I think that I have the Malcolm Duffy and Tony De Vit parts of the show.

Anyway hope you like this mix.

Enjoy.

EON / Baby Ford mix.

Here is something a bit different.  Its a Baby Ford / Eon tribute mix.  Not sure who made it, if you know who did please let me know so that I can credit them.

For those that don't know Eon and Babyford were UK Techno pioneers.  Their tunes were massive down Troll and the like.

Enjoy.

Fergie @ Trade Closing Party 2008.

Here is a real bit of Trade history.  Its the last set that Fergie ever played at Turnmills.  It was for the Trade closing party there.

If you go on Fergies podcast you can find the same mix, but with him talking about his Trade memories over the top.  Its also worth a listen.

Outrage - That Piano Track

One of his more well known tunes.

Enjoy.

The Aloof - On A Mission (Fabio Paras Remix)

Another excellent Fabi Paras production.  One of my favourite Progressive House tunes.

Enjoy.

Sound Clash Republic - Hypnotic Eastern Rhythm

One of Fabi Para excellent productions.

Enjoy.

Fabi Paras - 1992 Rhumba.

When I started the blog.  One of the aims of it was to see what happened to some of those well known DJs from the 90s.

Fabi Paras one of the those DJs at the forefront of my mind.

Fabir Paras was one of the most well known Progressive house DJs from that era.  He had a big DJ ing career along with some excellent remixes and productions.

He then disappeared from the scene.  What happened to him?  Where is he now?  if you Google his name there are a number of stories about what happened to him.  One of the sadder stories is that got into Crack big time and ended up selling his prized record collection.

If anyone has any idea of his whereabouts please get in touch as I would love to interview him.

Anyway here is a very rare mix from him.

Enjoy.

Trade 12th Birthday part 1 - E J Doubell. REPOST

I have a real bit of Trade history here.  Its part 1 of a double CD set that was given out at the Trade 12th birthday party.  Its mixed by the sorely missed (from the club scene that is) E J Doubell.

One CD was pretty much Tony De Vit productions.  The other CD was mainly classic nu-energy tunes from the early to mid 90s.

I seem to remember that both CDs were recorded live at a prior TDV tribute night at Trade.

Useless bit of trivia is that the 12th birthday party was the last night that Trade was held weekly.  At this point the gay after hour scene was being overtaken by certain clubs in Vauxhall.  Some might say that things should move on and clubs come and go.  But boo hiss to that.

Anyway enjoy part one of the CD pack.

Enjoy.

Vague Classics.

Lets take a down a notch.  Its been pretty banging this week so far.  I think we need something abit more uplifting.

Cant get more uplifting than a bit of Vague nostalgia from those glory Leeds years.

For those dont know about Vague.  Use the search engine on the blog as I had a whole week dedicated to Vague, along with a fine interview with one half of Twannie With Attitude (residant DJs TWA).

Jon Pleased Wimmin @ Dreamscape.

I am hoping to have an interview lined up soon with Jon Pleased Wimmin.  He is an amazing DJ who held superstar status in the 90s.

He was that rare breed of DJ who was booked at not only the super clubs but also the cool Techno ones as well.

He seemed to flit between the likes of SLAM and Miss Moneypennies with apparent ease.

Please contact me if you have any questions for the interview.

This mix should wet your appetites for the interview.  It starts off with my favourite ever tune from the funky room at The Old Glasshouse in Leeds.

Ian M Red Artists Mix 2010.

Yes I realise that this mix isn't from the 90s.  But hey ho.  Its by Ian M.  Probably the greatest Hard House DJ ever.

Yes I realise that many people prefer TDV.  But personally I always thought Ian M was better.

Although not a 90s retro set.  This set still has that 90s Ian M wiggle in it.

This mix is being re posted as the file share is now not working (Thanks Obamah).

Here is the fab two part mix from Steve Thomas on the Trade tour in the late 90s.  Although for me Trade was at its best between 91-95.  The late 90s really were the most successful ones for Trade.

Rosco @ Trade Easter Sunday 2012.

Thanks to the brilliant Rosco for recording his amazing 3 hour set from Trade the other week.

The set is a game of two halves.  The first being that trippy tech house sound Rosco is pushing in recent years.

The second half is more of a Trade hard house and trance classics set.  Perfect for the end of the night.

I suspect though that the first halves tech house sound is were Roscos musical beating heart truly lies.

Anyway enjoy the mix.

Mrs Wood - rare DJ set recorded live at 'FF' club London June 1994 - PART 1

A bit of Mrs Wood for a gray Thursday.

Sasha @ Universe 1991.

Ha.  A bit of a funny mix here.  Its only about 30 minutes long and is full n US vocal house.  Not what you would expect from Sasha.  But hey, it is from 1991.

Enjoy.

Malcolm Duffy / Smoking Jo @ Trade 26/1/92

Here is another corking Trade mix from 1992.  Not 100% sure who it is.  I think the first half is Malcolm Duffy (end of his set) and following into Smokin Jos set.

These were the days when DJs were not announced when their set started.  At least not at Trade.  Not like nowadays when the music stops to announce the new DJ.

This mix is a really cool house / tribal set from Trade golden early years.

Enjoy.

Blu Peter @ Garage / Heaven 1st Feb 1993.

Here is a fab mix.  It is one of the earliest mixes that I have from Blu Peter.  His carear in DJing was really just starting out at this point.

For those that done know he was the head bar man at Heaven at the time.  Supposedly Heavens management didn't want to let him go and become a DJ.  DJs are ten a penny but good bar staff are hard to find?

I seem to remember a really dodgy flyer for a fetish night at The Soundshaft with Peter in kinky rubber gear.

Anyway enjoy the mix.
