I'm pretty sure the 5th birthday flyer with the woman with the laser gun is fake. For some reason in 1996 someone created a few fake flyers & adverts advertising a non existant night at somewhere called pleasuredome or pleasure island or somewhere in Skegness. I've got the real 5th birthday flyer somewhere & quite a few other ones too. I'll have to dig 'em out. The rest are real though. :o)
I've sent you both flyers detailing the 5th birthday. I've done a bit of checking & the one with the lady on is definitely a fake. All the fake ads & flyers had ladies with laser guns on them. Slightly misogynistic for Orbit flyers & the fonts, logos & styles are all wrong. I seem to remember the bloke who actually designed all the flyers commented on another site about 5 years ago about how insulted he was by them. By the way, I went to the 5th birthday. It was a great night. Jeff Mills was good & the Advent were outstanding. They really did bang it out that night!
The fake birthday flyer was an attempt by some of the original promoters to start a rival orbit night. 7 lads started the club but by the 5th birthday only 3 were left, it caused quite a bit of confusion and trouble at the time. Thankfully it didn't ruin the really birthday party at The afterdark. The Orbit has quite a lot of politics behind it that are best left in the past.
You're probably right man. That's quite interesting. Cheers. I remember seeing the ad in Muzik magazine & wondering what the hell was going on! I used to go on the bus & thought "how the hell am I supposed to get to Skegness & what's with the cheesy looking women?"!
Many thanks for this Maz. The 'cheesy' looking woman is Jane Fonda in the Sci-fi classic movie Barbarella. I always assumed assume her image was used because of the Sven Vath connection?

ReplyDeleteMmm I wouldn't like to say if its a fake. It looks genuine to me. Shame we cannot see overleaf for the party details. Would like to see you flyers.
